Top Ten Settings I'd Like To See More Of



 

Latin America: To me, Latin America can be a beautiful thing. The beaches, rainforests, villages... I would love to learn more. I find it an even more desirable setting because my sister is going to be an exchange student there next yeear and I get to visit her.





Alaska: I've always wanted to visit Alaska. I just picture myself in a cabin in the woods by a fireplace with a book in hand and yes, a mug of hot chocolate. So cozy.






The desert: I would love to read about epic journeys across the desert. I think it could get interesting. Like a survivalistic type book.







The country/ farmland: I love books about little houses on farmland. They enchant me. Horsesand chickens and pigs, farm-cooked meals, fields of wheat, fresh air, and somehow I always imagine a river to jump in.





Historical: I love reading historical fiction. I hate history but reading about a novel that's set in the past adds to the story. I love the descriptions and reading about something that might as well be fiction but is a factual setting.





A small island: I think it would be so fun to read about adventures on an island especially deserted islands.







Asia: Anywhere in Asia interests me. I find it to be a fascinating place with so much culture.








The beach: Personally, I love stories about the beach. They remind me of the summer. This is actually my favorite time for me to read summer stories because they take my mind off of the snow and school. It makes me feel free. Ahh... the care free days.






Castles: The idea of the fairy tale castle with dragons and a moat has always tugged at my heart. Even if the setting is in modern day, if it's in a castle I'm hooked.






Bakeries/ Restaurants: I love to bake and love it even more reading about someone with a passion for baking. the descriptions of the foods be it pastries or italian pastas make my mouth water in anticipation.







There are so many other settings I like. I like spaceships, alien countries, boats, airplanes, boading schools, the wilderness (I love adventures in the wilderness) and so much more. What are some of the settings you guys like? Leave your inks and I'll check them out.

Top Ten 2013 Debuts

I had a hard time with this. There are so many books I'm looking forward to that picking just ten was a challenge. Which is why I'm listing them in no particular order.

Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza

This is a sci-fi thriller about a girl who's programmed to do things. She ends
up on the run because people either want to capture her... or kill her.

Red by Alison Cherry

This book sounds unique. I think it's contemporary but it also sounds a bit
paranormal. It's about a town where having red hair is everything. Felicity
is a red head with a secret: her hair color comes out of a bottle.

Triangles by Kimberly Ann Miller

Honestly, this book sounds really weird. Click on the title to read the
summary because I don't even know how to describe it. All I know
is that it sounds creepy but exciting and I think I'm going to love it.

Another Little Piece by Kate Quinx

This is another book that's hard to explain. I think it's either going to be very good or very bad. It's categorized as a thriller and a fantasy.

Pivot Point by Kasie West

This is a book about alternate realities, making decisions, and life in general. It sounds wonderful. It is categorized as a fantasy/ paranormal story with a
time-travel element to it.

Dualed by Elsie Chapman

This is a dystopia about a world where everyone has a twin. They are raised knowing that their worth will be determined on whether or not they kill their
twin. Ok, so my description makes this book sound creepy. Click on the title
because Dualed actually sounds fantastic.

The Rules For Disappearing by Ashley Elston

Meg has been many different people. She's a part of the witness protection
program, along with her dad. She's moving to a new place once again.

This sounds like a very good mystery/ suspense book. I can't wait for it to
come out.

If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch

Carey has lived in a camper in the forest with her mom and sister for as long as she can remember. Then one day her mom leaves and doesn't come back, forcing her to reenter civilization. She begins to realize there was a reason 
why she lived in the forest for ten years. And it isn't good.

Poison by Bridget Zinn

This story is about a poison master who happens to be a fugitive after nearly killing the prince of her kingdom. She's on the run and knows the prince must die. Adding to the intriguing premise is the little pig on the cover. How adorable.

Top Ten Bookish Goals For 2013

 

This week's topic is Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013. I think this is a stupendous idea and am very excited to be participating in it. I've already posted my resolutions here but they were for blogging. Which is why I'm glad I get to do bookish goals too. Hopefully by showing them to other people will force me to accomplish my goals.

 

1) Read at least 150 books. This won't be hard. I probably read a good 250 books or so last year. The hard part will be reviewing them.

 

2) Get over my fear of contemporaries. I used to be scared of contemporaries, after a few of them turned me off of the genre. Then I read the Summer Trilogy and was hooked. This year I want to dive right in and read at least 50 contemporaries.

 

3) Complete all my reading challenges.

 

4) Convince at least 10 people to read some of my favorite books. What can I say, I love helping people discover new things to read.

 

5) Get my hands on some good books. I want to try and get good deals on books to save money and win books.

 

6) Figure out when I'm going to post reviews. I have a tentative schedule and am trying to post 3-4 reviews a week.

 

7) Write reviews as soon as I finish the book. Unless it's a five star book, even a couple days later I feel a lot less for the book I'm trying to review. The tone of my review becomes flat. I think writing reviews right after I finish books is something I need to do.

 

8) Figure out a way to get money for books. I want to host a lot more giveaways on this blog, I just don't have the money. I need to fix this.

 

9) Tear myself away from my books, so I can enter the blogging world. I have a hard time putting a book down while I'm in the middle of this. Obviously I need to do this to keep my blog up to date.

 

10) Don't take the fun out of reading. Just because I'm reviewing books doesn't mean I can't read books I won't enjoy. Most of the reviews I posted so far are based off of books I had fun reading and enjoyed. It doesn't have to be an either/ or situation. However, I should probably make sure I'm having a good time by drinking a steaming mug of hot chocolate or eating a platter of brownies ;)

Happy Tuesday everyone! I already did this topic in a survey on Friday. If you'll recall though, I'm on a camping trip with no advance notice. So I did six days of posts in one night. Do you guys love me or what?

 

So without further ado here's my top ten most anticipated books of 2013.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles #2)  by Marrisa Meyer: This is the sequel to Cinder. I think I can sum it up in six words: Cyborg Cinderella on an epic quest

 

 

Splintered by A. G. Howard: I am very excited for this one. It's a debut book and a gamble to be this excited over it, but the plot sounds like it was written specifically for me. It has an Alice in Wonderland element to it, where the main character goes down the rabbit hole. What I really love about it is that the heroine can talk to bugs. I don't know why but I'm fascinated by that.

 

 

Invisibility by Andrea Cremer: Andrea Cremer is a trusted author for me. I know from her previous series about werewolves that she can write good, engaging reads that keep me hanging. This book sounds even better than the werewolves. It's about an invisible girl who meets a boy that can see her. I'm definitely intrigued.

 

 

The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead: I have read the previous two books in this series and all six books in it's spin off series for a reason. Every book Richelle Mead has shelled out just gets better and better.       

 

 

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2)  by R. L. LaFevers: I loved the first book in this series. It was about an assassin trained by a nun. The next book is also about an assassin but with a whole new plot.

 

 

The Elite (The Selection #2)  by Kiera Cass: This is the sequel to The Selection. I really enjoyed The Selection because it was a purely entertaining read. It was a dystopian with castes, a prince, a castle, and pretty dresses yet danger was lurking.

 

 

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2)  by Katie McGarry: This book sounds stupendously good. It sounds cute yet serious. It's about two very real people with their own issues who meet and fall in love. The first book was fantastic and I expect no less from this one.

 

Requiem (Delirium #3)  by Lauren Oliver: Cliffhangers are the bane of my existence. The second book in this series had a jaw dropping one and I'm still left shocked from it. It's a dystopian read about a rebellion.

 

Soulbroken (Legacy of Tril #2)  by Heather Brewer:  This is the sequel to Soulbound. Soulbound was one of my top three favorite books of 2012 because of the heroine. She had a strong soul but wasn't strong physically and was basically chained down with rules. So she did something about it. She got help and became a warrior who could kick- ass.

 

If I Should Die (Revenants #3)  by Amy Plum: Although I got off to a rocky start with this trilogy, the second book solidified our relationship and I am left eager for more. This is a series about zombies (of course they're all gorgeous) who are either compelled to save or kill people depending on the way they die. The second book had a heart-stomping cliffhanger and I need to find out what happens.

Childhood Favorites

First of all, Merry Christmas! I hope everyone is having a great day with their loved ones! I'm sending all of you Christmas thoughts through telekinesis as your gift... hehe... And that wasn't funny. Anyway, have a great day and I hope everyone got some good books to read.

 

So this week was a freebie. I choose the first thing on the list of past Top Ten Tuesdays to do because it interested me. I love rambling about my favorite childhood books so prepare yourselves. Also... I did cheat. I have 13 books here because I got so excited about this topic *grins sheepishly*.

 

 The Song of the Lioness Series by Tamora Pierce: I loved these books. A lot! I don't even know how many times I reread them... Just look at the book cover and you'll see why. It's about this girl, Alanna, who wanted to be a knight, not, a lady. So she disguises herself as a boy and goes to a school for knights.

 



The Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling: These books were/ are my favorite books in the world. I can not say enough good things about these books! I go back and reread them to this day.

Ella Enchanted by Gail Levine: This is a book about a girl who was cursed by a fairy. Her free will was taken away and she goes on a quest to get it back, meeting all sorts of "people" along the way.

Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins: These books are by the same author who wrote the Hunger Games. It's about a boy who goes underground to save his sister.

Into the Wild by Erin Hunter: I loved this series! I used to pretend I was one of the cats from the book and play in the woods. It's a series about wild cats and how they survive.

Matilda by Roald Dahl: Matilda was my favorite character when I was younger. She was so smart, she could move objects with her mind.

The Report Card by Andrew Clements: This is another book about a smart person that I loved. I liked how she told everyone that grades don't matter etc. because I do believe that. grades are very subjective.

The On The Run Series by Gordon Korman: These books... I can't describe how much I loved them. I reread them over and over again. I want to go back and reread them again, to be honest. They're about these siblings whose parents are convicted terrorists. The children decide to go out and prove that their parents are innocent. I thought it was so bad-ass how they dodged the police.

Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer: These books are stupendous! They're about Sherlock Holmes sister. She doesn't understand why she has to be a lady and runs away to solve mysteries on her own.

May Bird Series by Jodi Anderson: I remember my excitement after the latest in this series appeared at the library. I'd curl up in an armchair and read for several hours. I used to wish I was May Bird because she went on such fantastic adventures and had the best friend (he had a pumpkin head) and an adorable cat.

The Children of the Red King Series by Jenny Nimmo: I devoured all of these books. They're about a kid who can talk to photos. He's sent to a boarding school because of this and goes on all kinds of adventures.

 

The Missing Series by Margaret Haddix:  These books have a mystery in them and are about time travelers. What more could a kid need?

 

Lady Grace Mysteries by "Grace Cavendish": This is about a girl who solved mysteries. They were really addicting books and I could often be found reading them.

 

Shadow Children by Margaret Haddix: The plot of these books fascinated me. They're about a world where 3rd children are illegal. I couldn't help but cry at the end of the first book yet I kept reading them anyway.

Top Ten Books I Read in 2012

I didn't know how to answer this. I read so many good books but they were great in their own ways. So I decided to feature a couple books from each sub genre.

 

Dystopian

1) Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver: This book was mind-blowing. A lot of things happened in it and there was a major twist at the end. I am eagerly awaiting it's sequel.



 

 

Fantasy

2) Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: I've never read a book like this before. The characters were well rounded and the story gripping. It was a fantasy like no other.

 

 

Paranormal

3) Endlessly by Kiersten White: A battle of supernatural species may finally come to it's end with Evie as the deciding factor. One of the things I absolutely loved, besides the action, was Evie herself. She was hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times.

Contemporary

4) Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: This was a cute but serious novel about second chances. It helped draw me into the contemporary genre.

Sci- Fi

5) Goliath by Scott Westerfeld: I loved all the action in this novel. It was almost non-stop action with a few serious issues thrown into the batter. Think planes mixed with giraffes!t

Steampunk

6) The Girl In The Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross: 

 

Best Heroine/ Hero

7) Soulbound by Heather Brewer: Kaya is the strongest heroine I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. She never backs down and makes the most of herself despite the circumstances thrown at her.

Chilling Read

8) Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick: This book was a bit scary. Maybe not for other people but it was for me. It is an apocalypse that captivated me from the start and left me yearning for more.

 

Fairy Tale Retelling

9) Scarlet by A. C. Gaughen: This is a retelling of Robin Hood with one major twist: one of the boys in his band is a girl. And she has a secret. It was majorly good!

All- Around Good



10) The Scorpio Races: The Scorpio Races was scary good. The writing was great, the plot unique, and the main character relateable.
