Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted on The Broke and Bookish about the top ten of almost anything book related. I thought it was a great idea and decided to join in on the fun!

Top Ten Bookish Goals For 2013

This week's topic is Top Ten Bookish Goals for 2013. I think this is a stupendous idea and am very excited to be participating in it. I've already posted my resolutions here but they were for blogging. Which is why I'm glad I get to do bookish goals too. Hopefully by showing them to other people will force me to accomplish my goals.
1) Read at least 150 books. This won't be hard. I probably read a good 250 books or so last year. The hard part will be reviewing them.

2) Get over my fear of contemporaries. I used to be scared of contemporaries, after a few of them turned me off of the genre. Then I read the Summer Trilogy and was hooked. This year I want to dive right in and read at least 50 contemporaries.
3) Complete all my reading challenges.
4) Convince at least 10 people to read some of my favorite books. What can I say, I love helping people discover new things to read.
5) Get my hands on some good books. I want to try and get good deals on books to save money and win books.
6) Figure out when I'm going to post reviews. I have a tentative schedule and am trying to post 3-4 reviews a week.
7) Write reviews as soon as I finish the book. Unless it's a five star book, even a couple days later I feel a lot less for the book I'm trying to review. The tone of my review becomes flat. I think writing reviews right after I finish books is something I need to do.
8) Figure out a way to get money for books. I want to host a lot more giveaways on this blog, I just don't have the money. I need to fix this.
9) Tear myself away from my books, so I can enter the blogging world. I have a hard time putting a book down while I'm in the middle of this. Obviously I need to do this to keep my blog up to date.
10) Don't take the fun out of reading. Just because I'm reviewing books doesn't mean I can't read books I won't enjoy. Most of the reviews I posted so far are based off of books I had fun reading and enjoyed. It doesn't have to be an either/ or situation. However, I should probably make sure I'm having a good time by drinking a steaming mug of hot chocolate or eating a platter of brownies ;)
What do you guys think of my resolutions? What are some of your bookish resolutions? Please leave the links to your bookish resolutions so I can check them out.

  1. I feel ya on number 10- sometimes ARCs feel like a chore.

  2. 10 is definitely important. Don't let reviewing cause you not to love books.

Contemporaries can be really great. Give them a shot.

Totally understand about the whole write reviews right after reading them one too.

  3. I like your resolutions. It's interesting that you've noticed that distance from the book leaves you with flat writing. It's always good to be self-aware and then take action.

Finding a balance is always difficult. That's one I'm trying to rectify this year, too, but it's the reverse: more reading. Good luck and happy reading!

  4. 250 books? Wow thats amazing!
Great list. Feel free to stop by and View My TTT

  5. I recently jumped on the Contemporary bandwagon. They still aren't my favorite but they are a good break from my worlds of powers and what-not. I recently made myself an editorial calendar for the blog and love it. good luck with you goals

  6. Agree about contemporaries!! I need to read more but they just don't have that wow factor that I usually get from dystopia or fantasy books. But it was one of my goals too!

  7. I like your goal to get at least ten people to read your favorites!

    Good luck.

  8. No. 2 is the one that I should really pay attention to this year...

I start a book challenge, and then when I stumble onto something that I REALLY want to read I go off and forget about the challenge. Need to stop doing that - seriously.

Best of luck with your list! ^_^

  9. Wow, you read 250 books last year?! O.O I can totally inderstand #2. I only found my love for contemporary recently. As for #4, maybe you can convince me to read those books, only you need to tell me on my profile, else I might not see it :) Happy 2013, and good luck on all your goals! :D

    My Bookish/Blogger Goals

  10. 250 books in a year? Color me impressed! I'm also going to try to write reviews after reading even if they won't be posted for awhile. Good luck with all your goals! You can check my list out on my blog if you want!

  11. Great list! Wow, you're my role model for all the books you want to read! I have to be better about being more involved in the blog world, not just when I'm reading but for everything in general! I have to make time :)

    My TTT:

  12. Wow! You've read a lot of books last year! Fingers crossed you can do it again in 2013. :)

Like you, I had a *fear* for contemporaries, but last year I read a lot of them and loved almost each one! I'm now a huge fan of contemporaries. Funny how a great contemporary can change your favourite reading genre, rigth? :)

    1. Yeah, I did. I'm pretty sure I can. The problem is reviewing them. Yeah, I've been reading them for the past few months. I just need to make up for not reading them for all these years and read a ton! Yeah, it is. Very!

  13. Great list! I totally agree with you about #2 & #7. Good luck with all your goals!

    My TTT

    1. Thanks! Yeah, it would be great if we could both succeed. Thanks, you too!

  14. Your list mirrors many of my same thoughts (except for 150 books, I'm hoping for 62ish). I would love to host some fantastic giveaways too.

    1. Oh, really?! That's cool. 62 is a good goal :) Yeah, it would be so much fun. I hope you meet your goals!

  15. I can totally relate to your goals. As for convincing people to read your favorites - I volunteer - convince me. I love discovering new books. :D
Good luck with your goals and thanks for stopping by my TTT.

  16. Number 7 is a great idea! And I too also shy away from Contemporary YA. It's mostly filled with the same cliché love triangles, but I've found a few gems every now and then.

    Great goals! :)
